Create Midi file for Hallelujah (Eurovision, 1979)

This is a quick run-down through the process of MIDI file creation for a sequence of the winning song of the Eurovision Song Contest 1979, Hallelujah la'olam performed by Gali Atari and Milk & Honey. To illustrate the result, here are original sequence and Midi rendering superimposed as mp3. The final Midi file is here.
Work flow:
  1. Obtain a wave file of the sequence
    1. Play youtube video with ordinary, skype-type microphone placed inside the cups of an ordinary head phone.
    2. Record song with Audacity (free).
    3. Crop the desired sequence of the sound track and save as .wav file. (result: mp3)
  2. Extract vocalist
    1. Import .wav file into Melodyne (free trial available).
    2. Use Polyphonic algorithm to analyze sound (this is their Direct Note Access (DNA) feature).
    3. As shown in Melodyne tutorial videos, manually delete all sound elements that do not belong to the vocalist. No need to delete dominant overtones and ambiguities due to vibrato: Melodyne may not be able to identify those correctly with the Polyphonic algorithm. (result: mp3)
  3. Convert vocalist to Midi
    1. In Melodyne, change from Polyphonic to Melodic mode.
    2. Use 'Correct Pitch' wizard to automatically adjust blobs to nearest note.
    3. Manually tune some incorrectly assigned notes, as desired.
    4. Export as Midi file. (rendered result (mp3) with source material)
  4. Fine tune vocalist Midi file
    1. Use a Midi editor (e.g., Samplitude 11 Silver, free trial) to correct rhythm, pitch, and accent.
    2. Adjust beat and length of notes with a python script.
    3. Export Midi file. (resulting file: mid and rendered mp3)
  5. Render Midi file to audio file
    1. For demonstration, use FluidSynth (free) to convert Midi data to wave data, based on the GeneralUser (GS) soundfounts (also free).
    2. Convert to mp3 with LAME (free). (Resulting file: mp3)
  6. Display result
    1. Use MuseScore (free) to convert Midi file to sheet music. The tune is in A major.

A similar result could have been obtained playing along with a synthesizer.
